Gastroenterology Procedures
Upper GI Endoscopy
In this, a flexible endoscope is used to visualize the upper GI tract. The oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum – the first part of the small intestine make up the upper GI tract.
Capsule Endoscopy
This test helps in visualizing and evaluating the lining of the middle part of the gastrointestinal tract, consisting of the three portions of the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum and ileum).
Enteroscopy
In Enteroscopy, which is a test used to examine the small intestine (small bowel), a thin, flexible tube (endoscope) is passed through the mouth or nose and into the upper gastrointestinal tract.
Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure performed to look inside the colon and rectum. Colonoscopy is used to find inflamed tissue, ulcers, and abnormal growths. It is also used to look for early signs of colorectal cancer.
E R C P
ERCP is a procedure that allows the doctors to diagnose diseases in the gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas.
Manometry
Oesophageal Manometry
This test is used to check if the oesophagus is contracting and relaxing properly.
Anorectal manometry
Patients with constipation or fecal incontinence are evaluated with this test, which measures the pressures of the anal sphincter muscles, the sensation in the rectum, and also checks for the neural reflexes that are required for normal bowel movements.
Anal manometry
This test evaluates the strength of the sphincter muscles and whether they relax as they are supposed to, while passing a stool. It is extremely helpful in the treatment of fecal incontinence and severe constipation.
Endoscopic Ultrasonography
Endoscopic Ultrasonography [EUS] is a combination of endoscopy with ultrasonography. This test is conducted using an endoscope with a small ultrasound machine attached to the tip of the endoscope.
