The department of Nephrology is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, including electrolyte disturbances and hypertension, and care of those requiring renal replacement therapy, including dialysis and renal transplantation Patients are referred to nephrologists for various reasons, such as acute renal failure, chronic kidney disease which is often discovered on routine blood chemistry done for unrelated purpose and is commonly referred to as CKD. Chronic kidney disease is usually not reversible but its progression can be slowed down.
The department consists of highly skilled committed nephrologists, transplant surgeons and a large team of support staff. The paramedical staff including dialysis technicians, nurses and housekeeping staff are well versed with their technical skills and perform equivalent to world’s best centres. It provides a full range of renal services including hospital haemodialysis’, peritoneal dialysis and care for transplant recipients. The day to day activity includes more than 50 haemodialysis’, CAPD’s, 5-10 SLEDDs and approximately 3-5 CRRT procedures and 5-8 kidney biopsies and atleast10 temporary /permanent vascular access placements every week.
