Ensuring a Healthy heart amidst the lockdown
There are numerous reports coming to light stating that cardiac patients across the world are seeing an improvement in their health during the lockdown. Heart attack is known to be the biggest silent killer in India and fewer & fewer cases are being reported amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. But experts warn these numbers could be deceiving as many patients are ignoring symptoms due to the fear of hospitals.
So today we give you a few tips to ensure that you keep your heart healthy in these times.
If there was a time to quit smoking, it is today!
Smoking has never been good for you but as you may already know COVID-19 attacks the respiratory system and cardiac patients with a smoking habit may suffer extensively if contracted with the disease.
A healthy, well-balanced diet is your saviour.
When you are at home, the opportunities out eating take-out or consuming excessive amounts of alcohol and severely low. Use this time develop a habit of eating clean and healthy. It is imperative for you heart and overall health.
Work those muscles!
You are at home with limited space at your disposal, but that shouldn’t stop you from exercising. Yoga, low-impact aerobics and dancing are just some simple ways to stay active and keep that heart-rate going!
Reduce your stress levels by spending quality time with your loved ones.
This is a rare opportunity for all of us. With all this time on our hands ensure that you stay happy and mentally stimulated by being with pets, family and loved ones. If you stay by yourself, make sure you connect with them via video/audio call. Psychological stress is your biggest enemy right now and staying free of anxiety is the key!
Practice social distancing and wash hands.
Unfortunately, treating cardiac patients with COVID-19 has been challenging for professionals. So make sure you take all the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe – this includes social distancing, wearing a mask and gloves when you step out, washing hands thoroughly regularly and seeing a professional if you notice any symptoms.
