Children’s health during lockdown
Children may not share our worries about finances or world economics during the COVID-19 pandemic but they are struggling in other ways. Poor mental and emotional health can have a negative impact on their education, physical health and general well-being. Fortunately, providing them a healthy and stimulating environment at home can go a long way in making this period easier.
Here are a few ways in which you can help your little ones:
Maintaining a routine
It can be tempting to give into your child’s late night television demand, but an erratic schedule can wreak havoc on their physical & mental health. Strict sleep schedules and meal times should be non-negotiable. This will give them a sense of normalcy in these tough times.
Give them tasks/chores
Growing children need lots of mental stimulation and it may not always be possible for a parent to spend all their time with the children. While some children are being engaged with online classes, most aren’t. Figure out interesting ways to engage them with fun and creative tasks or chores like assisting you in the kitchen, watering plants, writing journals, preparing a skit for the family etc.
Adequate physical activity
Being confined to home may sound relaxing to many adults but not children. Losing the luxury of outdoor playtime can be hard on young kids. Come up activities like a family dance party or follow Youtube tutorials with your child to ensure both of you get enough physical activity.
Vaccinations
Stepping out of your home with children is scary, but young ones are especially vulnerable to diseases and require their routine vaccinations even at this time. Talk to your paediatrician to find a safe way to get your children their shots.
