ACC Oncology Team
Today, Cancer care has undergone a paradigm shift and is all about comprehensive care, which requires commitment, expertise and an indomitable spirit. It also demands innovation and a fresh way of thinking. Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata Multispeciality Hospitals is leading the movement of hope and cure against the disease. We have under one roof, the best minds in Cancer to discuss and deliberate the emerging trends in this field and their impact on clinical practice. They bring to the Center of Excellence, decades of experience and expertise in cutting-edge oncology. The ACC Oncology Team brings together the brightest minds in surgical, medical & radiation oncology, along with a complete range of high-end ancillary experts. For patients, our doctors symbolise hope. The mission of our doctors is to take the fight against cancer to the next frontier, and redefine clinical benchmarks and outcomes.
Precise Diagnostics
Radiology and imaging sciences are key facets in the delivery of high end diagnostics in cancer care. We are committed to incessant innovation and development in these vital fields. Our efforts have had tremendous positive impact in the fight against cancer. Radiology has evolved from purely diagnostic devices to interventional technologies. New contrast agents in MRI, X-ray and ultrasound enable physicians to make diagnoses and plan therapies with greater precision than ever before. Be it 128-Slice PET-CT scan system or the 160-Slice Multi Detector Computerised Axial Tomography scan, 3 Tesla MRI with BrainLab or the 3D Mammography, we ensure that we have the latest equipments to ensure better and earlier diagnosis of cancer.
Our multidisciplinary team of radiologist and pathologist are equipped to perform FNAB(Fine needle aspiration biopsy). If the lump cannot be felt, ultrasound might be used to watch the needle on a screen as it moves toward and into the mass. (This is called an ultrasound-guided biopsy.) Or, the doctor may use a method called stereotactic needle biopsy to guide the needle. For a stereotactic needle biopsy, computers map the exact location of the mass, this helps the doctor guide the needle to the right spot.
The doctor may or may not use a numbing medicine (called a local anaesthetic). The needle used for the biopsy is so thin that getting the medicine may hurt more than the biopsy itself. Once the needle is in place, fluid or tissue is drawn out. If clear fluid is withdrawn, the lump is more likely a benign cyst (not cancer). Bloody or cloudy fluid can mean either a benign cyst or, less often, cancer. If the lump is solid, small pieces of tissue are drawn out.
Individualised Therapy
This feature is currently not available in AMHL, Kolkata, but soon we will introduce individualised therapy for cancer patients
Integrated Pathology
Pathology and Radiology form the core of cancer diagnosis, both the radiologists’ and pathologists’ data are essential in making correct diagnosis and appropriate patient management and treatment decisions. The isolation of radiology and pathology workflows can be detrimental to the quality and outcomes of patient care. These detrimental effects underscore the need for pathology and radiology workflow integration and for systems that facilitate the synthesis of all data produced by both specialties. . A radiology and pathology diagnostic reporting system that integrates text, sentinel images and molecular diagnostic data is implemented at ACC Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata for an integrated, coherent interpretation thus leading to better management decisions.
Generation-Next Therapeutics
Taking a shift from the regular procedures of giving chemotherapy and general drug treatment to any cancer patient, the high end therapeutic method is the next level of treating cancer with more personalized drugs. With the help of various investigations inclusive of marker studies, receptors studies-this trend of high end therapeutics that includes various diagnostic tests, and profiling, gives an indication as to whether a particular drug will be beneficial in treating cancer for a patient and how the body of the particular patient will respond when that drug is administered. This kind of treatment is more focused and personalized and is more valuable in combating cancer and helping the patient to conquer it more effectively and efficiently. The Oncology specialists at Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata conduct Molecular Profiling and Genetic Profiling under high end therapeutic techniques.

Robotic Cancer Surgery
The Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata Institutes of Robotic Surgery are committed to providing patients with an exceptional experience using cutting edge treatment options. Our state-of-the-art operating theatres are equipped with the da Vinci Si surgical system, the most advanced platform for minimally invasive surgery available today. Robot-assisted surgery when indicated for oncology patients offers various unique advantages. The enhanced precision and control offered by the da Vinci system allows surgeons to perform delicate procedures like prostate surgery while preserving the nerve fibres and blood vessels attached to the gland. The enhanced vision of the surgical field offers surgeons the ability to clearly differentiate between tissue planes and effect precise tumour removal. The ability of the da Vinci system to scale the surgeon’s movement allows for better cancer clearance while preserving healthy tissue. The capabilities of the robot further come to the fore during reconstructive surgery following the removal of diseased tissue in cases of kidney cancers.
