Study on Glioma & Glioblastoma
Commonly known as Glioblastoma or grade IV astrocytoma, this aggressive cancer is associated with non-specific
symptoms. Neurosurgeon, Dr Sisir Das has recently being given Institutional Ethics approval for a study on Validation of a blood-based diagnostic panel for glial tumours (Glioma and Glioblastoma). All study related informed consent forms, investigators brochure and case report forms have been approved by the Ethics committee.
Study on Alzheimer
Neurologist, Dr Amitabha Ghosh is collaborating with DST and several other sites across the country to conduct a study on Alzheimer’ titled: Multimodal biomarker based diagnosis of preclinical and early prodromal Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. Already two meetings have been conducted involving principle investigators from all participating sites. Protocols and budgets are being subsequently drafted and forwarded for the respective sites approval.
Paediatric Study
Celebral Palsy is a group of permanent movement disorder that appear in early childhood. Through signs and symptoms vary between people, common symptoms includes poor coordination, stiff muscles, weak muscles, seizures and tremors. There may be recurring problems with sensation, vision, and hearing, swallowing and speaking. Often babies with cerebral palsy shows delayed response to activities such as rolling over, sitting, crawling, or walking. Difficulty with the ability to think and reason occurs in about one third of people with CP.
Paediatrician, Dr Anjan Bhattacharya is conducting a validation study on Cerebral Palsy: The Institutional Ethics Committee approved study is titled: ICF [International Classification of Functioning] validation study for newly developed core standard set of ICF of CP [Cerebral Palsy.
Orthopaedics Study
Arthroscopy (also called arthroscopic surgery) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure on a joint in which an examination and sometimes treatment of damage is performed using an arthroscope, an endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision. Arthroscopic procedures can be performed to evaluate or treat many orthopaedic conditions including torn cartilage (known by doctors as “meniscus”), torn surface (articular) cartilage, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and trimming damaged cartilage.
Dr BD Chatterjee is conducting a study on Correlation between coronal axial alignment and femoral rotation and functional outcome after total knee arthroplasty. The study has been given Ethics approval from the Institutional Ethics Committee.
Cardiology Study
Cardiologist Consultant Dr Suvro Bannerjee has recently completed an observational study on assessing the correlation of Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) versus Office Blood Pressure Monitoring (OBPM) in patients with newly diagnosed, controlled and Uncontrolled Hypertension. He had received institutional Ethics approval in the year 2014. This study was conducted in collaboration with Kolkata Municipality Corporation (KMC).
