City Based Women cardiologist perform Ace Cardiac procedure TAVI over a live workshop transmitted world-wide on the occasion International Women’s Day
‘World Women Cardiac Care’ is a forum with representation of Women cardiologist across the Globe and during the eve of world women’s day the forum meets each year over a three day event – to discuss about the recent developments in the field of cardiac sciences along with live case presentation. The forum this year had over 100 celebrated women cardiologist speakers from over 32 countries, making it the most sought after event amongst women cardiologist in the world. In view of the Covid pandemic the event was done using the virtual medium.
Dr Sarita Rao, Sr Intervention Cardiologist, Apollo Hospitals, amongst the first amongst Intervention Cardiologist in the City and the State was amongst the select four from the country on the forum to perform a live trans arterial aortic valve Implantation (TAVI).
(The only platform on the eve of international women’s day Apollo celebrates in a novel way by participating in the world women’s cardiac care virtual conference 2021 in a big way by doing a live transmission) TAVI is one of the newest intervention to replace diseased aortic valve which usually required an extensive surgery to cut open the chest and replacing the valve.
Sharing about event Dr Sarita Rao, shared ‘this is the first time ever that there will be a live case telecast from our city of Indore in an international forum where cardiologist from all across the globe were in the audience. It was a great opportunity and I’am personally very proud that I and team Apollo was able to contribute to the forum with a live TAVI case – which in itself is a novel offering in our filed. Sharing details about the live case Dr Rao performed, she added, this is a 67 years old gentleman suffering from severe aortic stenosis and also having narrowing of main artery of the body called aorta (coarctation) approached us for TAVI. Though he was low risk case, he wanted to have TAVI over a traditional heart surgical procedure called AVR( Aortic Valve Replacement). Patient case was performed live post appropriate patient consent”.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashok Bajpai, Sr. Consultant and Director Apollo Hospitals, ‘I congratulate Dr Sarita Rao and the entire team for this major achievement. He added, women’s contribution has been key to our very evolution and Dr Sarita has been a blessing to the field of cardiology and this region, and she has contributed immensely – being amongst first women cardiologist in India to do Intra-vascular lithotripsy, first in central India to do TAVI , first in Asia Pacific to do Renal Denervation Therapy (RDN) and first in India to do dedicated bifurcation device and first hybrid procedure for dissecting aortic aneurysm’.
Speaking on the occasion Unit Head Mr Abhilash Pillai, Apollo Hospitals, shared ‘’what better way to celebrate the strengths of Women power on international women’s day than to do one of the toughest case by a lady cardiologist and that too live in an international forum which comprises of stalwarts of the world who saw it Live and were involved in their discussions. The event was in sync with the theme of this year international women’s day “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.
