Dr Madhuri Khilari, an esteemed Neurologist and Epileptologist at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, explains the case of Mr Ndzumani, a patient from Mozambique. One month ago he was presented with Drug-Refractory Epilepsy, a condition where seizures persist despite treatment.
Dr Khilari elaborates on Mr Ndzumani’s case, highlighting the challenges posed by his frequent seizures and the presence of a brain lesion near critical areas responsible for hand function. Managing his condition was complicated due to his existing multiple medications and allergies to several others. Furthermore, his quality of life was significantly impacted, by his inability to attend school.
Considering all these factors, Dr Khilari recommended surgical intervention to remove the lesion, offering a potential solution to alleviate Mr Ndzumani’s symptoms and improve his quality of life. To ensure the utmost precision and safety during the procedure, intraoperative invasive monitoring was employed.
