Meet Dr. Jagadishwar Goud Gajagowni, an esteemed Consultant Robotic Oncosurgeon at Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, along with Mr. Abukaar Suliman from Sudan. Mr. Sulaiman was diagnosed with Appendicular Carcinoma two years ago, and surgery was performed after a biopsy revealed a Low-grade Mucinous Tumour.
In 2024, the tumour spread throughout Mr. Abukaar Suliman’s abdomen, resulting in multiple peritoneal deposits and showing resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. After consulting several hospitals, Mr. Abukaar Suliman arrived at Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. Under Dr. Jagadishwar Goud Gajagowni’s guidance, a PET CT scan revealed metastasis within the abdomen, including the liver and other areas.
A highly specialised procedure called Cytoreductive Surgery, coupled with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), was recommended. The goal was to remove all tumours from 23 sites, followed by Intraoperative Chemotherapy at 42°C for 90 minutes. Despite the risks, including the complication of having a 10% risk of mortality associated with the surgery, the family consented to the procedure.
The surgery lasted 4 to 5 hours, and Mr. Abukaar Suliman was monitored in the ICU for two days. He responded well to the treatment and is progressing well. Mr. Abduallah, Mr. Abukaar Suliman’s brother, expresses his heartfelt gratitude for saving his brother’s life and thanks Apollo Hospitals for their support.
