VVF Repair
A vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) refers to an unusual aperture that develops between the bladder and the vaginal wall, often as a complication following vaginal or bladder surgery. VVF repair is a customary surgical intervention for women afflicted with this condition. Laparoscopic VVF repair stands as the prevailing approach for addressing VVF.
At Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, our proficient urologists provide state-of-the-art VVF repair surgery for women grappling with vesicovaginal fistula.
Diagnosis of Vesicovaginal Fistula
Your doctor typically conducts a thorough physical examination of the area to gather more information. Depending on their findings, they may order imaging tests. The most commonly requested tests include a pelvic X-ray or a computed tomography (CT) scan with contrast dye to enhance tissue visibility in the affected region, helping in pinpointing the issue’s origin. The contrast dye is administered intravenously or via a catheter inserted into the bladder. Additionally, your doctor may opt to visually inspect the bladder using a scope.
VVF Repair Surgery
The procedure starts with the administration of general anaesthesia to the patient. A scope may be introduced through the urethra to assess the position of the fistula. Subsequently, the surgeon will make an incision around the fistula to perform the repair.
The outer membranes of the vagina and bladder will be meticulously separated, and the surgeon will proceed to suture the wound closed. To mitigate the risk of infection, bandages saturated with antibiotic medication may be applied to the vagina.
TVT/TOT
Tension free vaginal tape- TVT or TOT is used for women with urinary leakage on coughing or sneezing- Stress incontinence, when conservative measures like pelvic floor exercises fail. In this procedure a synthetic mesh tape is placed under the urine pipe so that it supports the urethra and stops leakage.
