Endoscopic mucosal resection is a procedure used to eliminate cancerous or internal injuries identified within the digestive tract by removing the mucous membrane. It has been recommended for the treatment of early oesophageal malignancies, as it has proven to be a safe and effective therapy for early squamous cell carcinoma.
It has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of early cancer of Barrett’s oesophagus, a condition where the lining of the oesophagus changes, usually due to acid reflux.
At Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, our expert gastroenterologists provide top-notch care, performing advanced endoscopic mucosal resection for patients in need.

Following the EMR procedure, you will be taken to a recovery room, where you will receive detailed instructions regarding diet, medications, and follow-up care. The results of the procedure will be communicated to your referring doctor.
For those who have undergone EMR of the oesophagus, mild chest discomfort may occur for a few days. Your doctor will advise you to follow a liquid diet for 1 to 2 days post-procedure, followed by soft or pureed food for another 2 days. Additionally, you should continue taking your proton pump inhibitor (PPI) acid-reducing medication twice a day. You may also be prescribed medication to coat the oesophagus, easing discomfort and aiding in healing.
