    FAQ's

Critical care is a highly specialised medical discipline focused on overseeing individuals with life-threatening conditions within intensive care units (ICUs). The Critical Care Unit at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, encompasses meticulous monitoring and targeted interventions designed to stabilise essential bodily functions. We strive to achieve best outcomes for patients confronting severe illnesses, injuries, or complications arising from surgical procedures.

An intensivist is a highly trained physician specialising in critical care medicine. Their role includes overseeing the medical management of critically ill patients in the ICU, making crucial decisions, and coordinating the efforts of the entire healthcare team. Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, have a highly qualified team of critical care clinicians who are efficient at handling all types of emergencies.

Admission to the ICU is determined by the severity of a patient's condition and their need for intensive monitoring and specialised medical interventions. Criteria for admission include factors such as unstable vital signs, respiratory distress, or organ failure.

We at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, believe that family involvement is extremely crucial in critical care settings. Regular communication, updates on the patient's condition, and discussions about treatment plans help families navigate the emotional challenges associated with having a loved one in the ICU.

While critical care interventions are essential, they aren't without their risks. If any complications do arise from any interventions, our critical care medical team will be ready to carefully assess and manage them. In these situations, open communication with patients and their families is prioritised so that potential adverse outcomes are averted

Critical care and emergency care serve distinct purposes. Emergency care addresses immediate life-threatening situations, providing initial stabilisation and rapid interventions. In contrast, critical care involves ongoing management in the ICU, offering a higher level of monitoring, specialised interventions, and comprehensive support for patients with severe or complex conditions.

A Code Blue is an emergency situation in the ICU, signalling a patient in cardiac or respiratory arrest. This prompts a rapid and coordinated response from the medical team to initiate life-saving measures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced interventions aimed at restoring the patient's cardiac or respiratory function.

A ventilator is a medical device that assists people with breathing difficulties. The ventilator delivers a controlled amount of air (with oxygen) to the patient's lungs, supporting the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. This life-supporting intervention is vital for patients with respiratory failure, severe illness, or those undergoing certain medical procedures where assistance with breathing is essential.

An ICU-acquired infection, also known as nosocomial infection, refers to an infection that a patient develops while receiving treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU). These infections are not present or are in the early stages of development at the time of admission to the ICU. Factors such as compromised immune systems, invasive medical procedures, prolonged hospital stays, and the use of medical devices contribute to the risk of acquiring infections in the ICU. Common types include ventilator-associated pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and urinary tract infections. We pride ourselves in maintaining the strictest infection control measures which reduces the possibility of such infections.

We have specialised recovery programs at Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, with the goal to address the physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges faced by ICU survivors. We support a holistic recovery, helping individuals regain optimal functioning and transition smoothly back to their regular lives.
