    FAQ's

Initially, general surgeons will evaluate your symptoms and medical history to make a comprehensive diagnosis. In most cases, surgery is often recommended if the alternative treatments, like medications, have not been effective. Our experts will discuss whether surgery is the right choice and its benefits for improving your condition.

Usually, this decision largely depends on the specific condition. Surgery is the only option for emergencies like appendicitis. While standard treatment options, such as lifestyle modifications, exercise, and medications, can be effective, they may not always yield the desired results. An observation period may be advisable in some cases to delay surgery or see if your health improves without or with conventional treatments. However, even after this period, surgery might still be the most appropriate choice of treatment.

Before surgery, you will have to meet the surgeon to discuss the procedure, potential risks, and pre-operative preparations. You might also undergo tests and evaluations to confirm your stability for the surgery. However, you will receive instructions on how to prepare yourself for surgery. Generally, these include fasting for a designated period of time, avoiding blood thinners and other medicines, leaving all the accessories at home, arranging your transportation and stay at the hospital, informing our surgeons of any allergies, and making proper preparations for post-surgical care.

Your surgeon will provide the instructions to be followed in the first few days after your surgery, as well as after weeks to months after surgery. You will be advised regarding the activities that you can perform in the post-operative period. Usually, a single dose of an antibiotic may be advised. Most often, you will return to a healthy diet, and in certain cases, you may have to start with soft foods.

During the procedure, you will be given anaesthesia or mild to moderate sedatives to minimise the pain and discomfort. While you may experience some pain after the procedure and during the recovery, it will be managed with pain medications and antibiotics.
