SAHI celebrates ‘World Deaf Day’ by hosting painting competition!
Hyderabad, September 26th, 2016: SAHI – an NGO working amongst hearing impaired children, celebrated the ‘World Deaf Day’ – September 24th, 2016, by organizing a painting competition for school and college students on Saturday at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills. About 70 children and adolescent from Geetanjali Model School, FilmNagar, Ashray Akruti and SGB Model High School and BVRIT, Vasavi and JNA & FAU colleges, participated in the competition. Ms Shobana Kamineni, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Group, gave away the prizes, Dr EC Vinay Kumar, Consultant ENT surgeon and several other consultants were present on the occasion.
Since hearing loss is an invisible disorder and its effects are drastic, SAHI made an attempt to sensitise normal children to this disability, through the painting competition. An awareness talk was given by an ENT surgeons on hearing loss and how to protect hearing, prior to the painting competition. The participants were presented certificates on the occasion. The paintings from the competition will be auctioned and the proceeds will go to SAHI for its initiatives.
SAHI, a 12 years old Indian NGO, aims to identify and help children living in rural areas, with little or no access to modern medical treatment. Since its establishment, SAHI has been addressing this problem by means of conducting camps in remote areas of the state. Children with learning disabilities or hearing loss are given hearing aids by SAHI and those with ear diseases are given free ear surgeries.
