Apollo Hospitals Achieves Milestone with 2,500 Successful Cochlear Implants, Pioneering Hearing Restoration in India

Hyderabad 05 January 2024 : “Apollo Hospitals” has marked a historic achievement by becoming one of the first medical institution in India to successfully perform 2,500 cochlear implant surgeries, underscoring their unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare and transforming the lives of individuals with hearing impairments.”

As per WHO estimates, approximately 63 million people suffer from significant hearing impairment every year in India. 4-5 babies in every 1000 born suffer from severe to profound hearing loss in India. If left untreated in the first 3-5 years of life, these children end up with hearing and speech disorders throughout their lifetime. Cochlear implants have emerged as a revolutionary solution for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss, providing them with the ability to experience the world of sound and significantly improve their quality of life.

 The Apollo Cochlear Implant Program, Hyderabad established first time in South India in 1994 under the leadership of Dr. E.C.
