Preparation for Surgery
You will be prepared for surgery by changing into a hospital gown and having an intravenous (IV) line placed in your arm. This line allows the surgical team to administer medications, anaesthesia, or sedatives.
Our team is led by highly experienced surgeons with over three decades of expertise in ACL reconstruction. They always remain updated with the latest treatment methods.
Having performed over thousands of ACL reconstructions, we are recognised as the best hospital for ACL Reconstruction in Hyderabad.
Our hospital has advanced equipment and facilities such as modern diagnostic imaging, operating theatres, and rehabilitation centres, allowing you to benefit from the most recent advances in medical technology.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a vital ligament essential for stabilising the knee joint. Tears or injuries in this ligament commonly result from sudden movements like cutting, pivoting with a planted foot, awkward landings from jumps, or sudden stops. These are often seen in athletes of sports like basketball and soccer.
ACL Reconstruction surgery is a saving grace for athletes and others afflicted with this injury, aiming to restore knee stability and strength post-tear. The torn ligament remnants are removed and replaced either with a ligament from your body or tissue from a cadaver.
You will be prepared for surgery by changing into a hospital gown and having an intravenous (IV) line placed in your arm. This line allows the surgical team to administer medications, anaesthesia, or sedatives.
The procedure starts with selecting tissue, either from your body or a cadaver. The tendon is prepared with "bone plugs" for grafting into the knee. A small incision is made for the arthroscope, allowing the surgeon to see inside the knee. The torn ACL is removed, and the area is cleaned. Holes are drilled into the tibia and femur to attach the bone plugs.
Following ligament attachment, the surgeon tests knee motion and tension to ensure graft security. The opening is stitched, wound dressed, and knee stabilised with a brace.
Apollo’s rehabilitation program focuses on restoring knee range of motion and begins immediately after waking up in the recovery room. In the initial week post-surgery, you are encouraged to perform straight leg raises while lying down, progressing to walking without crutches by the second or third week.
Physical therapy sessions usually commence between seven to 14 days after surgery, where weight-bearing activities are permitted unless a meniscus repair was performed.
