You might lose too much weight, face hair fall problems or gain the tremendous amount of weight even without eating a lot! It is important to pay heed to this problem in time, if neglected it can create serious health issues like diabetes and heart disease.

What are the symptoms of PCOS?

      • Irregular periods – Every month you are in the constant look as to when your periods will start. They happen uncalled for. Sometimes lasts for more than 4-5 days, sometimes there’s heavy flow and sometimes you might even skip them.
      • Excessive facial or body hair- It’s sure that no woman likes to have too much hair on her face or body, but if you have PCOS you might grow unwanted hair in unwanted places. You might also have to deal with oily skin!
      • Weight gain- Suddenly you see yourself in the mirror and get this sudden urge to hit the gym because you have gained weight! You cut down on your diet or resolve to go for morning walks. However, it’s not necessary that your sudden weight gain is associated with the lifestyle you lead but also can be a symptom of PCOS.
      • Infertility- Many women are unable to get pregnant. The cysts around the ovaries can be major cause of not able to conceive. It is advisable to seek a doctor’s help in such situation.

      What can cause PCOS?

Mostly the reasons for this syndrome are unknown. However, it has been noticed that if your mother or sister has this similar problem then you are more likely prone to it! Even when there is too much of insulin in your body it can be a cause for this syndrome.

      How to treat it?

      • Regular exercise- Try to exercise regularly to beat this syndrome. Moderate or vigorous activities can help you keep a check at it! Walking is recommended.
      • Diet control- Eating right is the key. You should eat heart-healthy foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts etc. Limit high cholesterol or high saturated fat foods.
      • Weight control- If you are on the heavier side, it’s recommended that you lose up to 5 kgs so that your hormones are in a check and irregularity of periods can be avoided.
      • No smoking- If you are a smoker, consider quitting! Women who smoke are likely to have higher androgen levels which can contribute to the symptoms of PCOS.
