Some affected areas in the world have taken to universal screening of all women admitted for delivery. The advantages of such universal screening would be in helping implement best hospital practices like admitting positive patients to cohort units and ensuring closer monitoring of mothers and babies. Feasibility would be an obvious barrier to universal screening of pregnant women. There may be a role for this in areas of high prevalence.
