Favipiravir, also known as T-705 or Avigan, is an antiviral medication that had demonstrated activity against influenza viruses. However, it has the potential for both teratogenicity and embryotoxicity in humans. It has also been used for postexposure prophylaxis and treatment for Ebolavirus infection. It has no activity against DNA viruses.

With regard to COVID-19, there have been a few studies done in China but there has been no worldwide consensus on its use yet.  Its use for influenza viruses, and oral bioavailability, make favipiravir a candidate for study for use in COVID-19.  It cannot be used for pregnant and potentially pregnant women. Blinded, controlled trials are needed to establish their efficacy.

You are advised not to take any medication unless advised by your doctor. Self-medication is very dangerous.
