4027Striving towards perfection in every aspect is human nature, and the same is true for physical appearance. People with birth defects or an injury post trauma need not live with deformities all their life; they can achieve perfection with the various types of cosmetic surgery procedures available nowadays. Whatever be the cause, the final outcome of cosmetic surgery is to improve appearance, boost self-confidence and in some cases to help live a better quality of life.
Here are the some of the most common types of cosmetic surgery
Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty is a procedure that can alter the shape or size of breasts. It is performed by using silicone gel implants, saline implants or fat transfer.
Women normally opt for this cosmetic surgery to restore their breast volume that may have been lost post pregnancy or due to sudden weight loss, to get a more rounded shape or to correct asymmetry in breast size.
2.Facelift
A facelift surgery can correct loose, drooping, sagging or wrinkled skin of the face caused by weight loss or aging. In this procedure, the facial tissues are first lifted and then the excess skin is removed and repositioned in new contours. Sometimes, other procedures like eyelid surgery and brow lift are performed in conjunction with a facelift.
It is important to know that a facelift surgery does not change the fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process.
3. Hair Transplant
Hair transplantation or hair restoration involves transplanting hair follicles to thinning or balding areas of the head. It is considered to be the best solution to correct baldness permanently. More than 1000 hair can be removed in a single session. The transplanted hair will shed in two to four weeks just like normal hair. The roots will automatically start sprouting hair naturally after that.
The hair that are transplanted in this process are permanent and do not require any long-term care. The scalp only needs to be protected from sunlight and infections for a while post surgery.
4.Tummy tuck
Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can improve the shape of your abdomen by removing excess fat and skin, and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. This surgery is an option for people who were obese at one point of time and have excess fat or loose skin around the stomach area. Women who have had several pregnancies can also opt for it for reducing skin and tightening abdominal muscles, but tummy tuck cannot reduce stretch marks.
However, remember that tummy tuck should not be considered as an alternative to weight loss. It should be the last resort after having tried everything else.
5. Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgery that is performed on the nose to enhance the shape or improve functionality. It can be done to increase/reduce the nose size, correct birth defects or problems post an injury, improve breathing, change the shape of the bridge or nostrils or the general appearance.
There are various techniques that can be used for reshaping the nose, depending on your requirement and overall health issue. Avoid any strenuous activity for five to six weeks post surgery, but you can go back to normal social activities within three weeks.
6. Liposuction
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat deposits to improve the body shape. The fat is sucked out from various body parts like the arms, chin, abdomen, tummy, buttocks, etc. However, it is important to remember that this process is not intended for weight loss.
Liposuction can also be carried out to remove fat tumours or reduce the breast size in men. The fat deposits beneath the skin are removed using a vacuum suction process.
7. Lip Augmentation
Lip augmentation provides fuller-looking, plumper lips. Generally, a dermal filler is injected in the lips and around the mouth. The procedure can add shape, structure or volume to the lips and enhance appearance.
Lip augmentation is not a permanent procedure, the effect lasts for around six months. A second procedure will be required to maintain the appearance.
8. Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is more of an exfoliation process that is used to remove the outer layer of the skin, especially on the face. It generally treats conditions like sun damage, acne scars, fine lines or uneven texture.
As the top layer of the skin is removed, new skin will replace the old after the area has been healed, thus improving the appearance. Some skin conditions like burn scars, inflammatory acne or recurrent herpes may prevent you from undergoing dermabrasion, so ensure you consult an expert before arriving to a decision.
Enhanced appearance not only makes you look good, but also makes you feel confident. All the above mentioned procedures are completely safe, but ensure you visit an experienced professional who will take into consideration your goals and health condition and help you achieve the desired look.
