He is member of many professional bodies. He has been elected member to Medical Council of India since 2005; Member Governing Body, National Board of Examination, Member Executive Council MCI and Aryabhatt Knowledge University, Member Standing Academic Committee, PGI, Chandigarh and also held many high offices at state level.

Dr. Vijay Prakash has been awarded ‘Padmshree” by President of India in 2003. Has the distinction of establishing Gastroenterology Department of IGIMS, and Patna Medical College Patna. Was Professor & Head Department of Medicine, Patna Medical College from 2004 to 2008 after which he shifted to the newly created Department of Gastroenterology as Professor & Head of Department

He has authored as well as guided many research publications.
