Ceramic Total Knee Replacement (Ceramic TKR)
The Ceramic TKR, or Ceramic Total Knee Replacement, is a type of knee implant surgery that uses biocompatible ceramic materials to replace the damaged knee joint. The procedure will be performed by our highly skilled and experienced Orthopedic Surgeon. In this procedure, the damaged cartilage and bone from the lower end of the femur (thighbone) and the upper end of the tibia (shinbone) will be removed under regional or general anaesthesia. Our surgeon will attach the ceramic femoral component to the end of the femur and the ceramic tibial component to the top of the tibia with cement or screws. Post-procedure, painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicines will be prescribed to ease the discomfort and swelling. You will be advised to use a walker, crutches, or cane for the first 2 weeks. Physical therapy exercises will be advised to strengthen the muscles and improve the range of motion. Your recovery depends on your age, health, and activity level.
