Renal Denervation for Uncontrolled Hypertension
Procedure:
A small incision is made in the groin. A catheter is placed in the kidney blood vessel and after confirming the position with use of dye, a tiny wire with electrodes is inserted into the blood vessel and radio-frequency energy is delivered for burning the nerves in the walls of the renal arteries without damaging the arteries. The catheter is then removed and incision site is closed.
Major Indication:
Hypertension is the leading cause for heart attack, stroke and death. The right combination of medicines is significant in the management of hypertension. Sometimes, despite the right combination of medicines and healthy lifestyle, blood pressure remains high for few patients. For these patients who have also ruled out other secondary causes of hypertension, an innovative treatment modality has emerged known as Renal Denervation (RDN), which has proven to reduce blood pressure.
