Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair with MITRACLIP
Procedure:
MitraClip procedure is performed to treat mitral regurgitation (leaky mitral valve) without open-heart surgery. Doctors access the mitral valve with a thin tube (called a catheter) that is guided through a vein in the leg (femoral vein) to reach the heart. It is a minimally invasive procedure, in which the MitraClip device (a small clip) is attached to the mitral valve. It treats mitral regurgitation by allowing the mitral valve to close completely and thus helps restore normal blood flow through heart.
Major Indications:
- Severe mitral valve regurgitation
- High risk for open heart surgery
- Age factor
- Other non-cardiac conditions
- Previously underwent open heart surgery, hence high-risk for re-operating
