When the child is brought to SACHi, a team of specialists evaluates him / her thoroughly and makes a diagnosis. A course of treatment is then determined.
- The care package includes diagnostics, surgery, ICU stay, pre-operative and post-operative care, as well as food and medication and ward accommodation for the child and one attendant. Parents are encouraged to contribute what they can towards the expenses.
- The duration of hospital stay depends on the procedure performed and the child’s condition. The pre-operative, surgery and post-operative period for open heart surgery in most cases is about 5-10 days; it is about 2-3 days for any other intervention.
- On an average, open heart surgery costs INR 1,60,000-3,00,000 and a closed heart surgery costs INR 1,20,000. These procedures are performed at Apollo Children’s Hospitals, Chennai at a subsidised cost. The hospital also waives charges for the state-of-the-art surgical management and care that it provides to these children. The costs of consumables are borne by SACHi and the government together.
- SACHi also relies on Corporate institutions for funding when required.
