The event started with a CME Program involving cardiologists of Apollo Hospitals. Dr. Ay. Shyam Sundar, Dr. A. Kader Sahib, Dr. N. Senthilkumar spoke on the various types, diagnostic modalities and treatment of heart failure respectively. Dr. Kartheegesan and Dr. Venkata Devanathan spoke on device therapy and surgical options.
The CME program was followed by the inauguration of the Heart Assist Clinic. Dr. Rohini Sridhar Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Hospitals, Madurai Region welcomed the gathering and said she was extremely proud that this has been done on behalf of Apollo Hospitals for the first time in Delta Region. She also threw some light on various steps taken at Apollo to provide the best of service and care under one roof.
Dr. M. Chenniappan, Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Director of Medical Education, Apollo Specialty Hospitals shared the concept of Heart Assist Clinic and stressed the importance of continued care to these patients even after discharge. He felt that there was an urgent need to create awareness, educate patients about the illness and organize research for better patient care.
Dr. K.S. Palanisamy, IAS District Collector and District Magistrate, Trichy was the chief guest and highlighted the importance about quality care with a compassionate heart. He quoted that the Heart Assist Clinic and Registry will be useful for the people in Trichy and appreciated the team on developing this concept for a good cause.
Dr. M.S. Ashraf, Senior Physician & Executive Member of Tamil Nadu Medical Council who was the guest of honour launched the Heart Assist Clinic Registry. He said that the registry will open new vistas for research and will help us understand the disease and treat patients in a better way. He also shared the view that there was a period that a common man had to travel a lot for better tertiary care but now tertiary care hospitals in Trichy has filled this void.
The CME was attended by a huge audience which included general practitioners, Physicians, critical and emergency care physicians, postgraduates and doctors across various specialties.
