    Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Trichy hosted for the fourth time, the National Level Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care CME – EMICON 2018.

    Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Trichy organized their fourth consecutive National Level “Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care CME – EMICON 2018” on 7th October 2018, organized by the Department of Emergency Medicine & the Department of Intensive Care, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Trichy.

    The Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care CME series was the first-of-its-kind in Central Tamil Nadu. It covered various aspects of Emergency Medicine & Intensive care advancements and current concepts. Concepts of managing the critically ill were discussed by Senior Consultants and the eminent faculty.

    The National Level Conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr. A. Amalraj IPS, Commissioner of Police, Tiruchirapalli City in the presence of Dr. Ramakrishna Easwaran, Consultant Neuro Surgeon, Neuro One Hospital, Dr. Rohini Sridhar, Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Hospitals Group, Madurai Division, Dr. S. Senthil Kumar, Hospital Administrator and ADMS, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Trichy.

    Dr. A. Amalraj IPS, Commissioner of Police, Tiruchirapalli City commended the newer techniques & Advancements in the Emergency & Critical Care scenario globally. He also highlighted the Emergency set up and expertise of Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Trichy while handling certain instances which he had come across. He further appreciated the team for rendering their valuable services to society.

    This CME was headed by Dr. Rohini Sridhar, Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Hospitals, Madurai Division. In her address, she mentioned that Emergency care in India is not available in many places so far and thousands of lives have been lost every year for want of immediate quality care. The Emergency room is one of the most critical areas in the hospital. The quality of medical services provided in the emergency room is of paramount importance and often has a direct bearing on the morbidity and mortality of a patient. It is time to enhance this service and focus on all areas of emergency services. The need today is for a uniform system of emergency care across the country involving all the players in the healthcare sector. She also mentioned that it is extremely proud moment that Apollo Hospitals, Trichy has now joined the handful of centers in the country, with the technical expertise and infrastructure to manage all Emergency cases. Apollo Hospitals, Trichy has been treating very high risk patients across various specialities and the outcome of such patients has been good.

    While she explained about the GPS Enabled Services for Ambulances of Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Trichy she said, “It is alarming to note that accidents are the single largest killer in the country. Every year more and more people die in accidents and many are maimed for life. Many lives can be saved if preliminary medical aid is provided immediately after the accident. The faster a person gets to hospital for treatment, the better. GPS Enabled Services for Ambulances would be to reduce the mortality and morbidity rate by providing medical assistance to the accident victims during the golden hour. The care given to the victim during the golden hour can make the difference between life and death”

    She also added that through a continuous policy of education dissemination, Apollo Hospitals has always strived to keep its medical experts and the medical community aware and updated on the latest trends and practices worldwide. This is done through Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes. EMICON CME has been a pioneer in its kind in Trichy District.

    EMICON 2018 was graced by the following experts who are the pioneers in their respective fields & renowned speakers.

    • Dr. Vel Arvind, Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician delivered a talk on Nutrition in Intensive Care.
    • Dr. Joshua Daniel, Transfusion Medicine Consultant from Chennai spoke on Emergency Transfusion Protocols.
    • Dr. R. Ebenezer, Critical Care Physician from Apollo Hospitals, Vanagaram, Chennai, spoke on updates in Sepsis Management.
    • Dr. S. Kumaragurubaran, Consultant Hepatologist, gave a talk on Management of Hepatic Emergencies.

    The National Level CME was attended by various practitioners of Medicine, General Physicians, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Cardiologists, and Cardiac and Vascular Surgeons, Emergency and Intensive Care Specialists, who were all happy with the content of the program.

    More than 200 Doctors from various districts participated in this year’s program.
