    May 13, 2022

On International Nurses Day, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC) launched an engaging initiative ‘Angels wear Blue Scrubs’ to salute the hard work of the nurses at every step of the patient’s treatment. Bringing nurses to the forefront and encouraging them with recognitions and awards, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, reiterates its commitment to motivating them to continue their service excellence.

In line with the theme ‘Angels wear Blue Scrubs’, the unveiling of the painting of Florence Nightingale was followed by the pledge ceremony by nurses. A fireside chat with nurses was held where dignitaries interacted with the nurses and their experiences at work.

The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest – Hon’ble Dr. Kanimozhi NVN Somu, Member of Parliament- Rajya Sabha along with the special guest Ms. Julie, Actor/BigBoss Fame from the Kollywood industry. Dr. Rakesh Jalali, Medical Director and Lead Neuro-Oncology, APCC; Mr. Harshad Reddy, Director- Group Oncology & International, Apollo Cancer Centres; Mr. Harish Trivedi, Chief Executive Officer, APCC and Sr Lijo Thomas Vazhackal, Chief Nursing Officer, APCC were present at the occasion.

Commenting on the initiative, Hon’ble Dr. Kanimozhi NVN Somu, Member of Parliament- Rajya Sabha, said, “The pandemic has made us realize that the lives are saved at hospitals due to consistent help and support by doctors and nurses alike. From doing selfless deeds for every patient to prioritizing their professional commitments over personal life to help in emergency cases, the nursing staff forms an extensive and strengthening support system. They stay by the beds of recovering patients to encourage them and fight diseases day by day. On this International Nurses Day, I salute their dedication and hard work which sustain lives every day. I appreciate Apollo Proton Cancer Centre for taking up this initiative to recognize the nursing staff and show gratitude for forming an important part of the system.”

On the occasion, Mr. Harshad Reddy, Director- Group Oncology & International, Apollo Cancer Centres, said, “At Apollo, we are proud of our nurses who spend days and nights caring for the patients, selflessly. They represent the true spirit of Apollo’s Tender Loving Care. Sometimes reading a book to an elderly patient or singing a lullaby to a child or motivating a mother/father to recover soon; nurses do it all. They give their best each day to help the patients heal and recover. As a testament to our exemplary team of nursing staff, we recently received the Nursing Excellence Award from AHPI Global conclave 2022. We, at Apollo, salute the untiring dedication and selfless acts of our nurses for patients. Apollo has excelled in every way and will continue to do so through the right care and dedication.”

Recollecting her thoughts, Sr Lijo Thomas Vazhackal, Chief Nursing Officer, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, said, “I feel proud to be here today and witness the celebration of such great people in one of the hardest professions of nursing. I hope that more and more people join the nursing force in India and help us build a strong healthcare system.”

Commenting on the initiative, special guest for the occasion, Ms. Julie, said, “I am glad to see how the unsung heroes who risked their lives during the pandemic are being recognized for their dedication and consistent hard work.
