This exam may include a general and neurological examination of child.
CT
scan: It is a rapid, cost-effective, and readily
available, simple tool to get basic information about the brain,
spine and skull. Generally, CT scan gets avoided in children due
to a possible radiation injury.
MRI with contrast: A tool that aids in a detailed and
more informative study of the Central Nervous System, which
provides more information about the brain tissue, its blood
supply, location, extent, and the nature of the tumour.
PET–
CT is a diagnostic imaging procedure that
uses x-rays to build cross-sectional images of the body. It is a
tool to provide more information in case of Metastatic Brain
Tumours and infections
Blood Test – Tumour Marker – Neuron-specific enolase
(NSE): High serum levels of NSE is found in patients with
neuroblastomas and malignant gliomas, etc.
Histopathology – A small tissue sample is obtained from
the brain tumour and sent for histopathological evaluation.
