Paediatric Brain Tumour

Overview

An abnormal collection or growth of cells in the child’s brain is called a paediatric brain tumor.

Risk Factors

Brain tumours in children usually have no known risk factors. However, some of the following may be associated with childhood brain tumours:

Signs and Symptoms

Brain tumors develop and expand, causing an increase in intracranial pressure.

This may lead to the following symptoms:

  • Headaches

  • Seizures

  • Loss of balance

Diagnosis

  • Physical Examination –This exam may include general and neurological examination of child

Treatment

Most brain tumors in infants and children require surgical removal, or at least a biopsy, as part of the treatment.
