Paediatrics Acute Myeloid Leukemia Risk Factors

There are no known risk factors; however, the following factors may be associated with it.

History of previous treatment for any type(s) of leukaemia
Genetic risk factors
- Down syndrome (trisomy 21)
- Li-Fraumeni syndrome
- Neurofibromatosis
- Fanconi anaemia
Inherited immune disorders such as
- Bloom syndrome
- Klinefelter’s syndrome
- Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
- Shwachman-Diamond syndrome
Environmental factors such as Ionising radiation and certain toxic chemicals may pre-dispose to developing leukaemia.
