Paediatrics Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Risk Factors

There are no known risk factors; however the following factors may be associated with it

  • History of previous treatment for any type(s) leukaemia

  • Genetic risk factors

    • Down’s syndrome (trisomy 21)

    • Li-Fraumeni syndrome

    • Neurofibromatosis

    • Fanconi anaemia
  • Inherited immune disorders such as

    • Bloom syndrome

    • Klinefelter’s syndrome

    • Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome

    • Shwachman-Diamond syndrome

  • Environmental factors such as Ionizing radiation and certain toxic chemicals may predispose to the development of leukaemia
