Tests and procedures used to diagnose liver cancer include:
Blood tests – To check for liver function abnormalities.
Tumor Markers Serum AFP – High levels of AFP can be a sign of liver cancer and can help diagnose cancer and also be used to help monitor the effectiveness of cancer treatment.
Staging – Imaging tests such as CT and MRI are done to determine the stage of the cancer
- Imaging
- Laboratory
- CT scan is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses x-rays to build cross-sectional images (“slices”) of the body.
-
MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI):
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses the interaction of radio waves and magnetic field, which is processed in a high-speed computer system to produce detailed scan pictures of the tissue, organs, bones, ligament and cartilage. - CT/ Ultrasound guided Biopsy – A CT scan/ Ultrasound is used to guide the needle into a suspected liver tumor in the safest possible manner. This is a minimally invasive procedure.
