Bone marrow aspiration and bone marrow biopsy –
The doctor uses a needle to take a sample of marrow and blood from the hip bone. The sample is then evaluated under a microscope for signs of leukemia. The sample collected is sent for further evaluation to the laboratory. -
Lumbar Puncture (Spinal tap) –
The doctor uses a needle to take some cerebrospinal fluid from the spinal canal to look for leukemic cells. The sample collected is sent for further evaluation to the laboratory.
