Biography

Dr Uma Ravishankar underwent her undergraduate training (MBBS) at Madras Medical College, Chennai, and graduated in 1984. She trained in nuclear medicine at Radiation Medicine Centre, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, from 1990 -1991, and at Batra Hospital, New Delhi, from 1991-1993. She worked at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for a year before being appointed as a Consultant in Nuclear Medicine at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, in 1996. She presently heads the department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging which has a SPECT gamma camera, DEXA scanner, PET CT and PET MRI. She has a longstanding interest in SPECT imaging, thyroid imaging, oncologic imaging with PET CT, and therapy procedures for thyroid cancer, prostate cancer, and neuroendocrine tumours. She is also a well-known International IAEA expert and has headed several missions to help support other developing countries like Zambia, Madagascar, and Mongolia to develop their expertise and facilities in the field of Nuclear Medicine. She has numerous publications to her credit and has coordinated several research studies. This, apart from the several lectures she has delivered and continues to give in her area of specialisation. She is the current President of the Association of Nuclear Medicine Physicians of India ( 2019-2021).
