Overview

Colorectal Cancer is on the rise across the globe ,increasingly affecting young adults. Due to low awareness and its silent progression, it is often diagnosed late, with symptoms mistaken for other conditions. #ColFit is our dedicated colorectal cancer screening program designed to detect concerns early, empowering individuals to make informed medical decisions.

Why Screening is Important

  • Colorectal cancer often progresses without symptoms, making early detection critical.
  • Screening can identify polyps and early-stage cancer before complications arise.
  • Timely diagnosis expands treatment options and improves outcomes.
  • Those with a family history, certain medical conditions, or lifestyle risks should consider screening.

How It Works

1. Risk Assessment

Our specialists evaluate your age, medical history, family history, and symptoms to determine your risk and recommend the appropriate test.

2. Screening Test Selection

Based on your risk level, our experts will guide you on the most suitable test.

Tests Offered:

a. Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT): A simple, non-invasive stool test that detects hidden blood. Recommended for average-risk in dividuals.

b. Colonoscopy: A detailed examination of the colon and rectum, suggested for high-risk individuals or those with a positive FIT result

3. Sample Collection & Analysis

Stool samples are analyzed for hidden blood, while colonoscopies allow for polyp removal and biopsies if needed.

4. Results & Next Steps

Based on your results, you’ll receive lifestyle recommendations, a follow-up plan, or further evaluation if necessary.

Who Should Get Screened

  • Individuals aged 45–75, even if asymptomatic.
  • Those under 45 with a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps.
  • People with a personal history of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis), or hereditary conditions like Lynch syndrome.
  • Individuals over 75 years who choose to continue screening based on their health and physician’s recommendation.

FAQ’s

Colorectal screening is a preventive health measure that detects precancerous polyps or early-stage colorectal cancer before symptoms appear.

  • Average-risk individuals: Start screening at age 45 and continue until 75.
  • High-risk individuals (family history, genetic syndromes, inflammatory bowel disease): Start earlier, sometimes as young as 20–40.
  • Stool-based tests are completely painless.
  • Colonoscopy is performed under sedation, so discomfort is minimal.
  • Follow a low-fiber diet for 1–2 days before the test.
  • Take a prescribed laxative the night before to cleanse the colon.
  • Avoid solid food 6–8 hours before the procedure.
  • The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes.
  • Patients may need 2–3 hours at the hospital due to preparation and recovery.
  • If a stool test is positive, a colonoscopy is recommended for further examination.
  • If polyps or suspicious lesions are found during a colonoscopy, they may be removed and sent for biopsy.

Yes! Lifestyle changes can reduce risk:

  • Eat a fiber-rich diet (fruits, vegetables, whole grains).
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol.
  • Get screened regularly as recommended.
