    Overview

    Dr Sathyaki Nambala leads the Cardiac Surgery unit at Apollo Hospitals Bangalore. He is currently the leading authority in adult Cardiac Surgery in India especially in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery and Robotic Cardiac Surgery. He has performed more than 8000 open heart procedures, more than 3000 minimally invasive cardiac surgeries and more than 250 Robotic Cardiac Surgeries till date.
    Dr Nambala, a surgeon with a vision, always believes in transferring the benefits of the advanced surgery techniques and latest available technology to his patients.
    He initiated the Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) program in Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore in 2009. The program was unique as it was the first, full-fledged and focused MICS program in India which encompassed all aspects of adult cardiac surgery from Multi-vessel Bypass, Aortic Valve Replacement, Mitral Valve Repair & Replacement, Double Valve Replacement, Complex Redo Surgeries, Adult Congenital Heart Surgery as well as Cardiac & Lung tumour excisions.
    Dr Nambala’s technique of multi-vessel MICS Coronary Bypass Surgery (MICS CABG) is the global standard and the largest single surgeon, single centre series in the world with more than 2,000 patients having undergone the procedure so far.
    He started fully fledged robotic cardiac surgery program in 2019 and has performed the largest series of robotic heart surgeries in India so far. His team is backed by more than a decade of experience in minimally invasive surgery and makes heart surgery extremely safe for the patients.

    Work Experience

    Before initiating the minimally invasive cardiac surgery program at Apollo, Dr. Nambala served as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiac surgery at the Harvard Medical School’s teaching affiliate Brigham and Women’s hospital, Boston, USA. This hospital is consistently ranked among the top 5 hospitals in the US and has the largest series in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. His expertise in MICS comes from formal training in these techniques at Harvard.
    He also trained as a Clinical Fellow at the Toronto General Hospital’s The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre in Canada, well known for its expertise in complex aortic valve and aneurysm surgery as well as Mitral Valve repairs.
    He did his basic surgical training at St Johns Medical College, Bangalore and his post-doctoral cardiac surgical training at Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences, Trivandrum – Kerala.
