    ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

    Is done to assess heart function and valves

    PROCEDURE:

    • Show your prescription.
    • Get a token for the procedure and wait for your turn.
    • Each test takes about 10 minutes. Hence delay during peak hours can be long.
    • The report is given about 15 to 20 minutes after the procedure.
    • If you have been advised of the test by an outside doctor please get the doctor’s contact details so as to discuss the results.

    Instructions to patients

    • Wear loose clothes
    • Get your old records for comparison if needed.

     

    STRESS ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

    Here echocardiography is done after exercise on treadmill or standing bicycle. In some cases, test is done after giving Dobutamine. This is called dobutamine stress Echocardiograophy or DSE. Done only on request of in-house doctors.

    TREADMILL TEST

    Is a preliminary test done to look for blocks in coronary arteries.

    PROCEDURE

    • Show your prescription
    • Get a token for the procedure and wait for your turn
    • Each test can take up to half an hour and so waiting can be long during peak hours
    • Results are given about 15 to 20 minutes after the procedure

    Instructions to patients.

    • Wear loose clothes.
    • Get your old records for comparison if needed.
    • Get your running shoes if you have them.
    • A treadmill test is not advisable after a prolonged fast and also immediately after a meal.

     

    24 HOUR HOLTER MONITORING

    Is used to analyze cardiac rhythm disturbances.

    PROCEDURE:

    • Show your prescription.
    • The machine will be attached to you.
    • You go home and come back after 24 hours that is the next day.
    • Holter machine is removed and data analyzed.
    • Results are given depending on the nature of the findings.

    INSTRUCTIONS TO PATIENTS:

    • Wear loose clothes.
    • Shave your chest if there is a lot of hair.

    Also once attached traveling by 2-wheeler, running, games, etc are not advised. All these shake the machine resulting in artifacts and results are affected.

    If you have been advised of the test by an outside doctor please get the doctor’s contact details so as to discuss the results. Note : We have to analyze 24 hours of data. This takes time.
    Simple test results are given within one hour. Others may take a day.

    Once the machine is attached the patient cannot take bath till the machine is removed.

    24HOUR BP MONITORING

    PROCEDURE

    • Show your prescription
    • The machine will be attached to you AFTER CHARGING. This approximately takes 15 minutes.
    • You go home and come back after 24 hours that is the next day.
    • The machine is removed and data downloaded and printed.
    • Results are available in 15 minutes usually.

    Note : Once the machine is attached the patient cannot take bath till the machine is removed. Please take bath and come.

    TILT TABLE TEST

    (On prescription of doctors of Apollo Bannerghatta Road only)

    DONE ON AN APPOINTMENT BASIS ONLY.

    This test is done to assess syncope or episodes of loss of consciousness often referred to blackouts.

    PROCEDURE

    • Take an appointment and come at the exact time.
    • Someone must accompany the patient.
    • Wear loose clothes.
    • We usually do the test around 2 PM.
    • The test is done in the fasting state. For a 2 PM appointment, take breakfast at 9 AM.
    • Preferably a light breakfast, say 2 pieces of toast and a cup of coffee or tea.
    • After this, NO FOOD OR WATER IS ALLOWED.
    • You come to the hospital and sit down without moving for 45 minutes.
    • Meantime an IV line will be put in to administer medicines during the test and your consent will be taken.
    • Then you will be put on the tilt table and put erect for a period of 45 minutes.
    • During this period BP and pulse will be recorded at regular intervals and recorded.
    • Once the test is over the patient is laid flat and given some fluids.
    • The patient has to rest for about half an hour post-test.
    • It is advisable to carry a bottle of juice to take post-test.
    • Results will be ready within one hour.
    • It is not advisable to drive a vehicle post-test so make arrangements for travel back

    TRANS ESOPHAGEAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

    (On prescription of doctors of Apollo Bannerghatta Road only)

    BY PRIOR APPOINTMENT ONLY. Call 080-2630 4149 for appointments

    The test is done in specific circumstances to look at some cardiac structures closely. An echo probe at the tip of a tube is inserted into the food pipe. Test lasts for about 5 to 10 minutes.

    PROCEDURE

    • A recent negative RTPCR test is needed.
    • The test is 4 hours after the last meal.
    • It is not advisable to come after an overnight fast.
    • Please take a light breakfast at around 8 AM and arrive for a test at 12 Noon.
    • Wear loose clothes.
    • An IV line is inserted if deemed necessary by our anesthetists.
    • The throat is sprayed with lignocaine to reduce the irritation of the probe.
    • The procedure is completed.

    POST-PROCEDURE

    • Sit down for half an hour and report to our doctor after that.
    • If everything is okay patient can have a sip of cold water.
    • If no problems we can send you home.
    • The report will be given after 2 hours.
    • FOOD CAN BE TAKEN ONLY AFTER 4 HOURS.
    • WE ADVISE ONLY SOFT FOOD FOR 24 HOURS.
