Adenocarcinoma
Majority of the cancer in the prostate is caused by the cancer that is developed in the gland cells. Adenocarcinoma can take the form of ductal prostate cancer, mucinous prostate cancer or signet ring cell prostate cancer are all glandular cancers.
Sarcoma
In some rare cases, prostate cancer can originate in other tissues of the prostate. Leiomyosarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma are the two common types of this cancer.
Prostate cancer develops in men in the prostate gland. There are usually no symptoms in the early stages, however, one or more of the following symptoms may appear:
Screening for prostate cancer is done by performing screening tests which may include digital rectal exam (DRE) or prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test. These tests only detect abnormality and tests such as ultrasound, prostate biopsy, or MRI fusion can determine whether you have prostate cancer.
Treatment options for prostate cancer depend on the growth speed of cancer, how much it has spread and potential benefits or side effects of the treatment. Some form of cancer may not warrant immediate treatment. For a more aggressive type of cancer, surgical removal of the prostate may be performed. Alternatively, hormone therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, biological therapy, or freezing of the prostate tissue may be performed.
