Doctors at Apollo Hospitals, Nashik successfully performed a complicated surgery and gave a new lease of life to the patient.
A 35-year-old female patient came to Apollo Hospitals, Nashik complaining of abdominal pain, difficulty in urinating and diarrhoea. Dr Praveen Goverdhane , Consultant Urologist examined the patient and conducted diagnostic tests. The reports revealed that patient was having many tumors in his abdomen. These tumours were attached to the amniotic sac, stomach and large intestine. On further evaluation, it was found that these tumours were cancerous. The albumin factor was decreasing and the patient needed cytoreductive surgery on an urgent basis. This very difficult and complicated surgery lasted for about 17 hours and the doctors managed to save the patient.
Dr Govardhane said, “This was a very difficult and complex surgery and an experienced team of surgeons were required for the same. Before every such surgery, the patient’s fitness is tested. During this surgery, the patient’s blood was reserved during the operation. At the beginning of the surgery, a telescope was placed in the stomach with the help of which the various tumours were located and then removed.”
Onco-Surgeon Dr Ajay Jadhav said, that during this operation, the patient had to be given four bags of blood. Post-surgery, the patient was managed in the ICU under the care of Dr Praveen Tajne, Pulmonologist at Apollo Hospitals, Nashik for his lung issues. Patient was discharged home after 25 days.
Dr. Jadhav added that the entire operation took 17 hours and doctors were able to successfully remove all the tumours. If the cancer tumor is diagnosed early, then cancer can be cured.
