We Can Prevent Cancer

Apollo Cancer Centre firmly believes that We Can Prevent Cancer. The good news is that there’s a lot we can do to prevent cancer. Estimates indicate that approximately one half of all cancer cases either arise from modifiable risk factors or can be detected as precursor lesions before the development of cancer. By making changes in our life style – the way we eat, maintaining a healthy weight and being physically active, staying away from tobacco products – we can significantly reduce our risk of developing cancer. Along with preventive measures early detection is the key to win over cancer.

Department of Preventive Oncology is offering the following services;
1. Health education on cancer prevention and early detection
2. Assessment of an individual’s cancer risk
3. Encourage individual to take charge of their health by keeping track of cancer screening
4. Special focus services including behaviour counselling and diet planning

We are working on a quite precise modus operandi (Teach Me…Check Me…Catch Me…) that helps an individual make informed decisions about getting screened.

Teach Me…… by disseminating information and bringing about individual as well as population-level awareness on modifying certain cancer risk behaviours, warning signals and to change attitudes and dispel common myths.

Check Me…… by completing cancer risk assessment, an individual is able to take a major step toward a healthier lifestyle and determine specific actions to lower chances for developing cancer.

Catch Me…… by providing unbiased and balanced information about potential benefits and harms of cancer screening tests, an individual can make informed decision about getting screened. Cancer screening means early detection, early treatment and better outcome.

A team of consultant, front desk executive, counsellor, dietician and marketing executives aim to deliver a consistently high quality services to our entire PATRON who receive, promote, support and advocate cancer prevention services. Cancer Warning Symptoms – CAUTION

While you are taking the steps to stay cancer-free, you need to keep aware of symptoms that may be associated with cancer. These are;

Changes in bowel or bladder habits
A sore that does not heal
Unusual bleeding or discharge
Thickening or a lump in the breast or any other part of your body
Indigestion or difficulty swallowing
Obvious change in a wart or mole
Nagging cough or hoarseness

Remember, these symptoms do not always mean cancer, and only your doctor can make a diagnosis. Report these symptoms to your doctor promptly. It is important to remember that when your doctor suggests a screening test, it does not always mean he or she thinks you have cancer. Screening tests are done when you have no cancer symptoms.
